I get it.
You have questions.
Obviously, you want to know more about a consultant before you hire him.
Well, the reason this page exists is to answer the most important (and commonly asked) questions you may have regarding my services. So here we go:
I’m a little nervous about hiring a communications strategist. Is there any risk?
Nope. You risk absolutely nothing.
Because I stand by my services 100% and can guarantee you high quality work delivered on time, on budget and on message. That means I’m easy to work with, I never miss a deadline, and I always deliver my best efforts.
And if you want revisions? Not a problem. I’m easygoing, and welcome feedback on any project. So you don’t have to worry about complaints from me if you want something revised. I’ll happily make these revisions fast, and at my expense.
And that’s why I can offer you my Better-Than-Risk-Free Guarantee:
For any written work, you’ll get two complete rounds of revisions free of charge within 60 days of the start date. And if you’re not completely satisfied with my services for any reason (even after revisions), let me know and I’ll refund your payment and complete any necessary revisions at my own expense until you’re satisfied.
So there’s absolutely no risk.
Why should I hire you, and not another consultant?
You mean aside from the zero risk guarantee above (which I can guarantee, no other consultant is offering)?
Well, here’s the main reason:
I’m a scientist who has worked in science labs for 11 years. This includes almost 7 years of nanotechnology and energy research. So I’ve spent over a decade working as a scientist, and with scientists. Not to sound too egotistical here, but that means I probably know your target audience better than you do.
For more information on why I’m your best choice, take a look at my Why Me? page.
What are your qualifications as a lead generation and communications consultant for science companies?
I’ve spent almost a decade writing technical documents such as reports, PowerPoint presentations, abstracts, posters, scientific papers and tutorials. Mostly in a university environment.
I’ve also published papers in high impact scientific journals as part of my doctorate, and written and presented materials at international conferences. This includes presenting technical work through oral and poster presentations and through written scientific papers, which means I’m able to communicate technical materials very effectively.
My extensive background as a professional scientist and researcher means I can research your assignment and write the document to a high level of quality, often to a standard unmatched by writers without my experience.
Do you have a science background?
I boast a science background most consultants can’t compete with: a degree in chemistry and a Ph.D. in materials science.
I’ve spent 11 years working in science labs, 7 of those in the nanotechnology and microscopy fields. This gives me an understanding and grasp of the subject matter that surpasses most consultants in this industry.
My extensive experience makes me an ideal choice. I’m capable of understanding sophisticated technologies and products. And clients appreciate the fact that I’m able to sit down with scientists, engineers, systems professionals and other specialists, ask intelligent questions and speak their language.
What scientific technology do you have experience with?
Working in science labs for 11 years means I have hands-on experience with various scientific products and technology. These include, but are not limited to:
- Li-ion batteries
- Energy storage
- Controlled atmosphere systems (gloveboxes etc.)
- Electron microscopes
- Analytical balances
- Chemical vapour deposition equipment
- High pressure equipment
- General lab equipment (pipettes, syringes, glassware etc.)
Do you have experience in my field?
If your company or business manufactures and sells lab equipment, chemicals or scientific products, then I probably have experience with it or something very similar.
What kind of assignments do you handle?
I specialise in helping science marketers reach their target audience more effectively and generate qualified leads. Most of the companies I help sell instruments and equipment to laboratories in universities and research institutes.
The communications I handle include white papers, case studies, application notes, articles, brochures and press releases, as well as lead generation material such as emails, direct mail letters, landing pages and advertisements. For more information, take a look at my Services page.
How much does it cost to hire you?
For any project or service, I will quote you an exact price after I receive all necessary information relating to the project. This is because all work is customised based on the challenges and problems of the company.
If you would like a copy of my fee schedule (listing general price ranges for each project), drop me an email at email@example.com
Who are your clients?
I have worked with many respectable scientific institutions and companies.
For a full list of my past and current clients, visit my Clients page.
How long does each project or service last?
This is difficult to say, as every project is different. If it’s a specific piece of content or communication that needs to be written, such as a white paper, I usually give it 2-3 weeks for the copy. Or more specifically, 10-15 business days.
For shorter documents like emails, expect about 1 week.
This gives me time to properly research, organise, write, edit and revise your document until I’m pleased with it. If I take the job, I guarantee you will have the copy in your inbox by the agreed date – or sooner.
For consulting and more customised work, the time is based on the project and agreed upon before starting.
As a general rule, I do not accept rush jobs. I insist on providing all my clients with high quality and high value copy and documentation.
No matter what the deadline is, the copy I submit to you will be right. You can depend on it.
What happens if we want anything revised?
No problem. Just tell me what you want improved and what the changes are, and I’ll make them – fast.
There’s no charge for up to 2 rounds of revisions. They’re included in the flat fee we agree to for the assignment, provided the revisions are assigned within 60 days of your receipt of the work, and are not based on a change in the assignment after the copy has been submitted.
Most clients are pleased and enthusiastic about the work I provide them with. But if you’re not 100% satisfied, I’ll revise the work according to your specific guidelines – and at my expense. Take a look at the no risk guarantee offered at the top of the page.
Do you charge by the hour or by project?
I charge a flat fee based on the project. If you want to see a detailed breakdown of my cost structure, download a free copy of my Information Kit.
How do I work with you and what does it involve?
Step 1 is always a 30 minute Lead Generation Systems Review over the phone or on Skype to discuss your problems, challenges and the project itself. Details here
Step 2 is a Discovery Contract. If we both agree that I can help, I go away and think about your challenges. I spend some time researching your company, products, website, market, and any challenges we discussed in the Lead Generation Systems Review. I then put together an analysis outlining possible ideas and solutions that can help you, the terms of the project, the scope and what’s expected. The fee to do a Discovery Contract is $397.
Step 3 is the full project. If you decide to proceed, the $397 for the Discovery Contract is discounted from the full project fee. We then schedule a 60-minute call to discuss the project in detail (if needed) and schedule any necessary interviews. After that, I get to work.
Step 4 involves everything during and after the project. This is project specific, but may include items such as regular updates, weekly 30-minute progress calls, necessary revisions, etc.
What can you expect as a client?
I’m a nice guy, what can I say. So you can depend on me to be easy and pleasant to work with, to deliver excellent service, to meet or exceed your deadlines, to go the extra mile in serving you and to perform with honesty and integrity.
